Japan
Traditional Gekiken is still preserved in some Koryu Kenjutsu (traditional Japanese sword styles), making use of bamboo weapons.
In recent years, the Japanese invented a more realistic system of Gekiken, making use of Habiki (blunt metal swords). Highly customized armour have to be worn for safer protection, as even blunt swords are dangerous.
United States & Singapore RSW (Realistic Sparring Weapons), is a unique brand of padded weaponry, closely simulating real weapons, to make our training sword-fights follow closely to the physics of real combat.
RSW Features:
- real weapon weight and balance
- real weapon dimensions and shape
- slight core flex, thus increasing shock absorption
- more padding, making it safer
- rigid enough to accurately execute historical techniques.
Some of the Kenjutsu and Battodo groups in United States use RSW for their Gekiken training, and allows for cross-style matches.
In Singapore, the Gekiken group also makes use of RSW weapons. Furthermore, there's also participation in cross-cultural and cross-style training matches, welcoming Chinese, European and other swordsmen from various styles.
